With the deepening of reform and opening-up policy, more Chinese companies and organizations carry out international business activities and business contracts are made to guarantee the success of business activities and to protect interests of both parties. In C-E translation of business contract, the translator shall firstly understand the details of original Chinese text, which is the basic requirement to completely convey the information of the original Chinese text to the target readers. However, people tend to pay more attention to linguistic features of English version instead of original Chinese text in C-E translation. The report, based on the author's translation practice, is composed to explore the linguistic features of the original Chinese contract text and to find corresponding English translation techniques according to functional equivalence theory by Eugene A. Nida.In addition to introduction and conclusion, this report is divided into four parts. In Chapter One, the author gives a description of the task including background information and characteristics of the Chinese contract text; the author introduces the process of the task in Chapter Two; Chapter Three includes linguistic features of the Chinese contract text and corresponding English translation techniques; in Chapter Four, a summary of the translation practice is presented. In the original Chinese contract, auxiliaries, technical terms, conditional sentences, elliptical sentences, etc. are widely used and the style is formal and conventional. In translating the Chinese contract, the author tried to attain the equivalence to the largest extent in meaning and form between the original text and the translated text by using the techniques of literal translation, omission, addition, sentence reconstruction, etc.The author also summarized her experiences in the C-E translation practice, pointing out that it is very important for a translator to get understanding of the original Chinese text so that she can avoid misunderstanding and disputes by choosing close and natural words, proper sentence structures and equivalent style in English translation.
