Exploring Recitation Styles For Poetic Songs Of Chinese Ancient Poetry

The Tang poetry,Ci Poetry of the Song Dynasty,Yuan dynasty verse and even folk songs in the long history and culture river of China has provided excellent raw materials for the creation of our modern Lied of classic Chinese poems.Lied of classic Chinese poems have been aroused in the early 1920 s,after a song genre called "Chinese school songs".In time of war,ordinary people had strong desire to inherit their traditional cultural heritage and create their own culture and art.Musicians and composers return from abroad with plentiful musical knowledge,by learning from Lied-a specific western musical genre,they had written a large number of "Lied of Chinese".Specifically,the Lied of classic Chinese poems have combined the euphonious of recitation of classic poetry and modern music language,thus possess the unique Chinese cultural connotation and aesthetics,and become one of the most popular musical types for composers.Then,the upsurge of Lied of classic Chinese poems concerts had been set off by famous musicians.At the same time,the problems that persecute vocalists have been arisen: how to express the original feelings of ancient literati's poems perfectly? Followed by more and more studies and discussions of Lied of classic Chinese poems with different breakthrough-points and contents to Interpret and express their meaning and charm from different point of view.Such as exploring the artistic conception,studying the characteristics of pronunciation,discussing the features of artistic styles,as well as studying the properties of music creation,etc.The most important characteristic of Lied of classic Chinese poems distinguish from other works of vocal is recitation characteristics,which have not been excavated and valued thoroughly by the researchers and had been only treated as one of the very ordinary features of Lied of classic Chinese poems.Recent,although far from comprehensive,the researchers gradually remounted to the classic poems themselves and have made some achievements by sincere and in-depth exploration of the characteristics of recitation of Lied of classic Chinese poems.From this point of view,this dissertation will present the elegance and beauty of Lied of classic Chinese poems through the recitation of classic poems.This work is no longer a simple study of some kinds of vocal skills;nor a brief research of the articulation skills of vocal music;not to mention exploration of a certain style of music;but a comprehensive analysis of rhyme,metrical pattern of poetry,emotional and artistic conception of poetry for Lied classic Chinese poems by studying the unique characteristics of classic Chinese poetry language.Classic poems are the quintessence of five thousand years of Chinese traditional culture and have have close relationship with the classic Chinese music.From ‘the book of poems' and ‘Chu-Tzu' to the Ci Poetry of the Song Dynasty and Yuan dynasty verse;from the Standard Forms of Chinese Regular Verse to the verse of different lengths,the classical poems especially their structures and themes are changing with the substitute of Chinese dynasty.But their unique and distinct phonology,artistic conception and recitation has been inherited from ancient times to the present day perfectly.Based on incorporation of the recitation characteristics of classic Chinese poems,the rhythm of vocabulary and the vocal skills,this dissertation explored the influence of recitation in the Lied of classic Chinese poems on the performance styles and the expression of artistic conception.The major characteristics of recitation styles of Lied of classic Chinese poems are: firstly,their language is pithy and their artistic conception is profound.Classical poems are laden with literati's thoughts,feelings and rich imaginations.With concise and vivid language,classical poems could express the author's thoughts and feelings accurately,and depict a penetrating and powering artistic conception.Secondly,the rhythm is brilliant and phonology is harmonious.Although the number of poems' words is varied,the language and syntactical structures of Lied of classic Chinese poems are highly graceful,harmonious,singable and rhythmic.At last,the metric is strict but the chanting style is free and easy.Poetry rhyming is necessary because of the strictly regulations but less rigid development of tone and patterns;poetry reciting have always accompanied with and was penetrated into the music singing.This dissertation took 5 specific works of Lied of classic Chinese poems as exemplars,expounded the poetic reciting characteristics of the classic poems based on their rhyme temperament and emotional artistic conception.By combining the poetic reciting styles in the singing could exhibit the charm and artistic conception of the Lied of classic Chinese poems easier and better.This work would provide reference value to the performance of Lied of classic Chinese poems for the singers.
