| Ursula K.Le Guin is a famous American writer who writes science fiction.Ethnicity is an important topic in her works and has been covered in all her writings. This paper focuses on three novels, which are The Left Hand of Darkness,The Dispossessed and The Telling. The Left Hand of Darkness explores the ethnicity under binary opposition, with Estraven who strides across border and gender,as a key example to reveal the premise of ethnicity and ethical issues behind the ethnicity. The Dispossessed illustrates the ethnicity when dualism is changing to pluralism. As the betrayer and reformer in an ethnic group,A-Io and Shevek are examples to demonstrate that integration of binary elemets and the being of individuals can solve the problem of ethnicity to a certain extent.Against the backdrop of pluralism,The Telling shows the opposition and unity between pluralism and particularism and the ethnicity under it through the main character Sutty who has a multicultural background and the ancient religion "the telling".Through these novels,Ursula K.Le Guin shows the ethnicity in distinct stages and introduces a solution of ethnic conflict,as well as explores the ethics behind the problem of ethnicity. She then continues to explore further on these things in her novels. |
