The People's Republic of China is a country with 56 nationalities and its traditional culture is created by people of all nationalities.As the main and important part in creating ethnic minority cultures and knowledge,minority women also have their own culture and knowledgeThe translation of ethnic minority women's knowledge and culture is beneficial to the protection and preservation of the traditional ethnic minority handicrafts and costumes on the verge of extinction and the spreading of ethnic minority women's culture.Furthermore,it is also valuable in promoting people's understanding of women's important roles in social life and development of human civilization and in paying more attention to them,in particular to those ethnic minority women so as to exert a positive influence on their benefits and rights.This report is based on the practice of translating Chapter Two of Folk Handicrafts and Costumes: the Ethnic Minority Women's Knowledge and Experience by Professor Yang Guocai(2011)of Yunan Minzu University.The first chapter of the report is an introduction of this translating task which includes the background,the source text as well as the purpose and significance of the task.The following chapter introduces the progress of translation and illustrates the theoretical foundation of the translation practice: Hans Vermeer's Skopos Theory and Lawrence Venuti's translation strategies.And the third chapter is the analyses of cases.As the core part of this translation report,this chapter presents difficulties in translating and proposes corresponding approaches.A summary is made in the last chapter,concerning the author's experience and gains,problems and limitations in the practice.
