Repeated reading(RR)is an evidence-based instructional technique put forward by Samuels(1979)in which students read the same text multiple times. It is based on Automaticity Theory. The theory suggests that,to ensure adequate understanding of the articles, readers must be automated at low levels of processing when they allocate more energy to high levels of processing. The present study investigates the college students which Chinese is their first language by using eye movements to examine the effect of repeated readings on college students' English articles reading. The experiment adopts a 2(target words' frequencies:high-frequency,low-frequency)x2(repeated readings:1,2,3,4,5)within-subjects design. The results are as follows:(1)The effect of repeated reading plays a s'ignificant role in promoting the processing of participants,as with the increase of reading times, there have less total reading time, average fixation durations, fixation counts and regression counts, but longer average saccade amplitudes.(2)Repeated readings also play a significant role in promoting the processing of target words, show the target word skipping rate increases, gaze durations and total fixation durations reduces.(3)Compared to high-frequency words, repeated readings improve low-frequency words better.Research has shown that repeated readings technique can effectively improve the second language learners' reading performance.
