This thesis is a study of Chinese traditional musical mode with the ethnomusicology as the methodology,describing the Qin music "Huan Tone","Bitter Tone" and the Chaozhou music "Accented third and sixth Tone"," Accented fifith Tone" based on author's personal investigation and perceptual knowledge.In this article,the concept of the tone(Sol,LA,DO,RE,MI)contains the " Primary Mode Solfa" and "Tone Consciousness": First of all,Primary Mode Solfa is not only the habitual Solfa of the folk region in Shanxi Province,but also the same as the concept of the pitch of the Chaozhou two-four system tablature(the concept of the pitch is neither the first tone nor the fixed pitch concept,but the concept of relative pitch).As a result of the core status of the Solfa Sol,it is customary to certify the bitter tone as the "Hui mode" by Insider.More importantly,this habit of Solfa also acts as a conscious,driven by Insider's control of musical mode.For example,the performance concept of the Shanxi opera musician mentioned in part one of chapter two,as well as the second part of the Chaozhou Zither's Cantus Firmus fixed by specialization.In addition,from the perspective of the Outsider,the Primary Mode Consciousness has this kind of meaning: before the emergence of Characteristic Scale-step,we call them Primary Mode(generally 56123).When Characteristic Scale-step appears,it is the reflection of “Primary Tone Consciousness” through the control of “Rule of Melody”or “Temperament Modulations” to put the Melody Tone between Primary Tone and New Tone.In fact,there was the viewpoint of the concept of the "embryonic form" as early as the time of predecessors.The Tone Consciousness is a unique construction of traditional musical mode and the layout of the tone of abstract thinking.It is highlighted among the "Huan Tune","Bitter Tone",Accented third and sixth Tone","Accented fifith Tone".In fact,the phenomenon of Bitter Tone(the phenomenon of it referred to in this paper,including accented sixth Tone)exists in most part of China.They have different names,different kinds of evolutions,but a common tone construction and tone layout consciousness rather than the western mode and the modulation theory studied at college.The Tone Consciousness is not only the abstract musical thinking,but the embodiment of the traditional humanistic spirit,such as the people's sense of worship in Chaozhou,which is also a popular folk tradition in China.In summary,the article beginning with the Bitter Tone theory and the Bitter Tone music,meanwhile on the basis of the theoretical summarization and the analysis of the musical ontology and humanistic spirit,studies the underlying thinking of Primary Tone.The first part is the qualitative research of the phenomenon of Bitter Tone,mainly to sum up the phenomenon of the Bitter Tone by Outsider;the second part is the analysis of Bitter Tone in "Hui Tone" by Insider;the third part is the characteristic of the Rule of Melody and cultural connotation of “Bitter Tone”.
