Memory And Symbol:Study On The Wupai Miao Nationality's Wood Culture In Ziyuan County Of Guangxi

Symbol is the cultural memory of the preservation,it has a high degree of condensation,can save a large amount of cultural information in a compressed way.In the new context,it can reconstruct the stored information,which is the bridge connecting the past,the present and the future.As a kind of collective consciousness,cultural memory and symbol affect people's cognition of wood,which is reflected in all kinds of folklore,rituals,beliefs and taboos,and even the application of wooden objects.Wood is inseparable from Miao's life,and it will open a new window to understand the traditional culture of Wupai Miao nationality.This paper through field investigation,with basic situation,Miao nationality historical culture and belief system as the background,to collect the cultural memory of the Miao people,to explore the multiple symbolic meanings of the wood,and to explain the culture of Miao nationality.Unscramble the view on life,values and human settlements.To understand the practice and function of wood in the social life system of Miao people,and to explore the relationship between human and nature,human beings and supernatural beings in the Wupai Miao society.This paper mainly launches from two aspects of narrative,the first is the wood cultural expression as the core,to the folklore,folk beliefs,trees knowledge and relationship of expression,traditional festival in the wood as the foothold,to explore the rich connotation of Wupai Miao wood culture;Secondly,the paper discusses the types of Fengshui forest,the concept of human settlements and the cultural cognition and symbol of wooden artifacts.Wupai Miao people connect the trees to FengShui"life power",through every kind of Fengshui forests to create the best living environment,pray for health,population and wealth.At the same time,this kind of life is also reflected in the cultural symbols of wooden artifacts.Therefore,through the analysis of the cultural awareness of the Wupai Miao social life,and the formation of the symbol of wood,it is helpful for us to deeply understand the cultural connotation of Wupai Miao nationality.With their unique cognition for wood,they take wood as a living body,explain the natural characteristics of trees by life experience as themselves.At the same time,people fear the unknown properties of wood,hope the mysterious power of wood can be used by them.In this paper,field investigation and literature collection was the main research methods.Go deep into the field and investigate.In the process of interviews,a wealth of first-hand information was collected,which provided the basis for further understanding of the Wupai Miao nationality.The main body of this paper is divided into five parts.The first part is the introduction of the historical geography,the humanities and the Miao nationality.This part,through the introduction of the Wupai Miao people's living area,lays the foundation for the discussion of the construction of the Wupai Miao nationality's wood culture.In the second part,try to analyze the wood culture complex of the Wupai Miao nationality from the cultural cognition of the wood.On the one hand,we begin with the trees in the historical memory of Wupai Miao Nationality,discussion on the Miao nationality's understanding of trees.On the other hand,study on the symbol of the traditional festival of trees,wood cultural cognition in relation to the tree as a relative.Then,summarizes and analyzes the cognition of the wood culture in the historical memory of the Wupai Miao nationality.In the third part,starting from the Wupai Miao nationality local knowledge system of trees in common sense,with the expression of the "Yi Dou Ren" relationship,analysis of the relationship beween man and the wood trees in the interaction of cognition,explore the symbolic meaning in the wood in Wupai Miao's society.In the fourth part,try to analyzes the cultural cognition of wooden artifacts and the cultural symbol of wooden artifacts.Wooden artifacts is widely used,as an extension of the wood culture,how to play a role in the Miao Society,it's an interesting question.In the fifth part,the Wupai Miao people have built a good living environment through the Feng Shui forests,expressing their yearning for a better life.Therefore,on the basis of introducing the types of Miao Feng Shui forest,this paper analyzes the causes of the combination of Feng Shui and witchcraft taboo,And discuss what is the good living environment of Wupai Miao people.Last is the conclusion,analysis and summary of the paper.The wood culture is an integral part of the traditional culture of the Miao people,there is a lot of research on the Miao wood culture,but it is not comprehensive.In this paper,chose the wood cultural memory and the symbol of wood as the end result.Combined with folklore,trees knowledge,ritual taboos,traditional festival customs,FengShui forests,wooden objects and so on.Discussion on multi level construction of Wupai Miao nationality's wood culture,and exploring the multiple symbolic meanings of wood and its formation,taking the wood as the breakthrough point,find the composition and connotation of Miao traditional culture.It is believed that this will provide a new perspective for the study of the Wupai Miao nationality.Enrich the contents of the Wupai Miao studies.
