An E-C Translation Report On Monetary Policy And The Oil Market (Chapters 6-7)

In recent years,with the development of global economy and imbalance of energy supply and demand,oil price is fluctuating.Oil price fluctuating in turn exerts a great influence on global economic development.As an oil importing economy,China suffers from oil fluctuating,so it is advisable to study and translate writings about world petroleum economics abroad.This English-Chinese translation project selects Chapter Six and Seven of Monetary Policy and the Oil Market as the source text,which mainly discusses the influence of monetary policy on oil prices and some studies on the modeling of oil prices.This text has terminologies,long sentences and charts,concerning different areas such as petroleum and economics.In this translation project,the translator applies translation techniques and methods with the help of Skopos theory,such as syntactic linearity,inversion,etc.,and from the standpoint of target receptors,produces a translated text finally achieving the closest natural equivalent to the source text.This translation report first introduces the project including background and significance of the translation project,and main content and styles of the original text.Then it presents the introduction and application of Skopos theory,and this theory was raised by Hans Vermeer who thought that translation purposes decided translation methods.Moreover,the translator describes translation process containing reading the original text and parallel literature,finding translation difficulties,processing terminology control,using translation tools(Computer Aided Translation tools)and methods(syntactic linearity,inversion,conversion,amplification,division and omission)under the guidance of Skopos theory,and making quality control after translation.Finally,the translator summarizes enlightenment and problems to be solved.From this translation project,the translator has learned more about Skopos theory and mastered translation methods and techniques of economic text to provide references for the translation of economic texts.
