This thesis is a translation report on the Chapter Twelve of the history story,The Aviator,written by gifted storyteller Winston Groom and published by The National Geographic Society.This chapter mainly told this story: During the Second World War,a retired pilot Eddie Rickenbacker,American fighter ace and Medal of Honor recipient,was recalled to go back to the battlefield.In a mission,the airplane he and his companions took was lost in the Pacific Ocean.And they were forced to land in the sea.They used their wisdom and endurance against the torture of destiny,reflecting the brilliance of humanity and redefining the heroism.Time demands heroes to create.As a real story of hero,it will help readers to cultivate a strong will to achieve their goals and encourage Chinese people to unite together to realize the Chinese Dream.This report is completed under the guidance of skopos theory saying that the translation purpose decides translation method.To achieve the translation purpose properly,the translator adopts text typology by Reiss and refers to “Function Plus Loyalty” Principle by Nord at the same time.In the end,the translator decides to use literal translation as the main translation method and flexibly adopt,at the same time,free translation and various translation skills to achieve the purpose of the translation.
