The thesis is an English-Chinese translation report.The original text is an excerpt of Chapter 14 from Winston Groom’s The Aviators—Eddie Rickenbacker,Jimmy Doolittle,Charles Lindbergh,and the Epic Age of Flight.This book mainly introduces three outstanding American pilots.Their thrilling adventure stories make the readers understand the age of flight’s epic.The part of the book the author selects named Masters of the Sky summarizes the three pilots’ life,their achievements and outstanding contributions to human flight history.Their thrilling life stories subtly interwoven,showing the readers the history of the age of flight’s epic.They experienced broken homes,failed marriage,and even faced death several times,but survived from the misery and disaster.They redefined the meaning of a hero through their own talent,perseverance and extraordinary courage.When facing the danger of war,they gave up the easy life to make great contributions to mankind’s anti-fascist,becoming the model of “one of the greatest generation”.Biographical texts’ reader groups are wide and it’s language usually looks simple and easy.This chapter mainly uses the third-person narrative to describe lyrically,naturally and fluently.At the same time,appropriate reference announcing the view of speech in letters and diaries are also applied to make the biography more real and powerful.Therefore,the author tries to translate accurately and naturally under the premise of semantic correction.It seems simple,but actually it is difficult to find proper Chinese expressions to match.The translation is based on the theory of discourse analysis.The author has taken different translation strategies to solve the problems of long and difficult sentences,terminology,and cultural differences.Through translating this text,the author has a further understanding of flight history and improves her translation ability.The author gets the further understanding of human’s flights history and improves translation practice ability through translating this text.The author also profoundly realizes the difficulty of translation.To produce high quality translation,we must carry out solid basic skills training and enhance the ability of controlling the bilingual,improving translation quality from various aspects.
