A Practice Report On The News Translation Of U.S. Bureau Of Economic Analysis In 2013 (excerpts For July And August)

The report is based on translation practice of U.S.Bureau of Economic Analysis news in 2013(excerpts for July and August).This text,released on the website of Bureau of Economic Analysis,U.S.Department of Commerce(http://www.bea.gov),is the most authoritative and detailed report of 2013 economic situations in the United States.By translating the text,we hope to have a recognition of American economy briefly and provide economic data for international trade enterprises and foreign government officials in making decisions and analysing as well as useful information for economists for their study of the United States and the world economic condition.At the same time,the report aims to summarize translation difficulties and translation methods to give advice to translators who translate similar texts and scholars who study the translation of similar texts.This text is an economic text,which contains many economic terms,specific economic sentences and different expressions.This report aims to analyze the difficulties in translation process from these three levels and summarize translation strategies used in translation practice to give advice to later translators.The translation practice is guided by functional equivalence theory.At the lexical level,translation strategies including conversion,amplification and omission are used,and at the syntactic level,translation strategies including translating in original sequence,reorganization of sentence order and synthetic method(dividing and recasting)are used.As for different expressions between Chinese and English,the applications of domestication translation and functional equivalence theory primely resolve these difficulties to achieve “faithfulness,expressiveness and elegance”.Since this practice report aims to summarize the main translation strategies and methods in practice,the other translation strategies and methods used in translation are not concluded,which can be made up in future translations.
