"The period from the late of 20th century to the 21st century is known as Age of Migration."(Chen Jimin,2011)."With the rapid development of the economy and opening up,China is becoming the transit and destination for immigrants of other countries,which is a new challenge that China is about to deal with."(Wang Xianfeng,2004).The Economic and Fiscal Consequences of Immigration concluded many experiences and lessons in immigration governance of the United States.The translator chooses Chapter Two of the book,which is approximately 19,732 words,as the source text of this translation project.Through the translation project,the translator expects that American society and the phenomenon of immigration can be better understood by Chinese people,and at the same time,it is also hoped that solutions to immigration issues mentioned in this book can provide some reference for relevant researches on China's policy-making and the relevant experts who involve in immigration field.The report consists of five Chapters.The first chapter introduces the background of the translation and the significance of the translation project to the translator,and relevant researches on China's policy-making as well as the relevant experts who involve in immigration field.And this chapter also introduces the theoretical guidance of this translation project—the Communicative Translation Theory.The second chapter concentrates on the translation process,which includes the works that the translator has done before,while and after the translation.The third chapter is the main part of the report.The translator carefully analyzes some typical cases including the translation on lexical level,syntactical level and textual level under the guidance of the communicative translation theory.In Chapter four,the translator summarizes the lessons and experiences in the translation process and points out the limitations in the report.Through this translation project,the translator not only gets familiar with language and syntactic features of the informative text,but also has a better command of translation strategies and methods for informative texts,which altogether lay a solid foundation for future translation work.
