In recent years it has been growing that numerous biographical books are translated into other languages,and that biographical production is getting profuse with fast growth of biography literature as well.Under the frame of pragmatical translation theory put forward by He Ziran and Chen Xinren,the paper tries to apply pragmatical theory into the solution of the comprehension and reconstruction in the translation process and pursues to reach the equivalency on both aspects of linguistic pragmatics and social pragmatics.In other words,the paper attempts to ensure target readers to be received implicit intentions directly which the author or characters in the book want to convey,and additionally it studies that the effectiveness of translation texts is maximizing to approach what the original materials have left on source readers.Enlightened by the academic opinion,the paper successfully injects the pragmatical equivalency translation theory into the practical translation of biographic materials.Life of He Long is reckoned as the example material to be studied.And doctrines out of both linguistic pragmatics and social pragmatics are performed in the translating process of example texts.Some translation methods which are useful and constructive are summarized as follows:in term of linguistic pragmatical meaning,literal translation is applicable to convey meanings in those texts which have no any implicit purposes.Different from the word-to-word translation,it needs to pay attention to the literal translation here which has been proposed by Liu Zhongde.Moreover,other translating tactics in dealing with translation obstacles are also introduced in the paper,like all-to-one attending to translating personal appellations and syntactic exchange in dealing with translating quotations.As regard to the social pragmatical meaning,it's also told that communicative intentions are transmitted indirectly and implicitly which are more frequent in allusions,rhetoric expressions and culture-loaded words.According to the evaluation on target language readers' recognition,concerned cultural context and given images,translators are inclined to ignore the allusions and express its behind meaning simply and straightly if target readers are unfamiliar with those images or they cannot get across about implicit intentions even with the given context;literal translation with annotation usually exercises a main role in translating process if the given images are unknown to target readers or they can comprehend yet not thoroughly.It is hoped that the translation methods as well as practical instructions put forward in this paper under the guidance of pragmatical translation theory can provide some illuminations and enlightenment of the translation of biography in the future.
