The Effect Of Different Context Of Nostalgia On The Explicit And Implicit Self-esteem

Nostalgia is a complex emotional state when someone missing the past.It can be positive,negative,or even bittersweet.Nostalgia could improve the level of self-esteem,and have positive effect.The research aim to explore the effect of different context of nostalgia on different kind of self-esteem through 3 studies.The significance of the research is great,because it not only can enrich the research of nostalgia and self-esteem,but also can enrich its theory.The most important is that it has the great value of application.Study 1 uses single factor two levels of experimental design to terrify whether nostalgia could improve self-esteem,and it recruits 80 subjects.The results show that the level of self-esteem is higher under nostalgic condition relative to conduct condition.Study 2 uses single factor two levels of experimental design to explore the effect of different context of nostalgia on explicit self-esteem.And it recruits 62 subjects.The results show that collective nostalgic context enhance the level of explicit self-esteem relative to the personal nostalgic context.Also,the loneliness has complete mediating effect on it.Study 3 uses single factor two levels of experimental design to explore the effect of different context of nostalgia on the implicit self-esteem,and it recruits 54 subjects.The results show that under collective condition,the relation between self words and negative words will weaken relative to the personal condition.It suggests that collective nostalgic context will weaken people' s trend of self negative evaluation.A series of study and its results suggest that:(1)Collective nostalgia could improve the level of self-esteem and has the positive effect.Also,collective nostalgia is a kind of more positive mental resource.(2)Collective nostalgia could improve different self-esteem.For explicit self-esteem,it improves the self positive evaluation.But for implicit self-esteem,it improves self-defense and self-worth protection.(3)For explicit self-esteem,the loneliness has mediating effect in the process of nostalgia improve the level of self-esteem,but it is not the same effect for implicit self-esteem.
