Reproduction Of Beauty In Chinese-English Prose Translation With Translation Aesthetics

Modern Chinese prose possesses obvious aesthetic traits.There are scholars expressing their insights on prose translation,but only a few academic articles on prose translation are related to theory of Translation Aesthetics.This thesis aims to discuss ways to reproduce beauty of prose under theory of Translation Aesthetics and hopes the research result will contribute to the reproduction of beauty for modern Chinese prose.This thesis is a descriptive study and the research theory comes from the book named An Introduction to Translation Aesthetics.In the book,the aesthetic subject and aesthetic object in translation,basic level of aesthetic creation in translation,aesthetic ideal and aesthetic reproduction in translation are discussed.This paper adopt an inductive method,that is,analyzing the source text of modern Chinese prose from a perspective of formal system and non-formal system under the theory of aesthetic object,and then analyze ways of translation of related parts,and come to the conclusion on how to reproduce the beauty of prose in English translation of Modern Chinese prose.This thesis consists of five chapters.Chapter One is literature review,introducing the background,situation,significance,method of the research and organization of the thesis.Chapter Two introduces the theory of Translation Aesthetics and the notion of aesthetic object.Chapter Three is an introduction to beauty of Chinese prose,which will be discussed from the level of the whole article,sound and rhythm,words and sentence.Chapter Four is the case study part.Chapter Five is the conclusion.According to the thesis,it is the mixture and integration of all elements in formal system of the aesthetic object that demonstrates the beauty of prose in detail.The nonformal system of the aesthetic object is an abstraction and sublimation of the beauty of prose.In the translation process of prose,aesthetic reproduction of every aspect in formal system depends on the comprehension of all elements in non-formal system and the reproduction of beauty of all elements in non-formal system can be achieved via every aspect in formal system.The formal and non-formal systems are indispensible to each other.
