The translations practice report mainly contains four parts.The first part presents the text of education genre,Changing Vocational Education and Training jointly edited by Ian Finlay,Stuart Niven and Stephanie Young.This book includes some successful vocational education training models developed by five countries?the Republic of Ireland,Singapore,Germany,Finland and the United States,and three regions?Scotland,Taiwan and South Africa,and also involves the cases analysis in order to figure out how the stakeholders related to vocational education and training(VET)system seek to reach consensus on VET policy.And the translation material,the second chapter of the book,is about stakeholders and partners in VET in Scotland.The following part is the description of the pre-translation,which mainly introduces knowledge preparations related to terms in the field of VET,the history of VET in Britain and the process of changes in VET in Scotland to exactly understand the intention of the writer.Cases analysis constitute the third part.The translator analyses vocabulary,syntax and text difficulties with specific examples,which includes the book title,parts of speech,meanings of words,punctuation,the translation of passive sentences,attributive clauses,adverbial clauses,and negative sentences,as well as text coherence.In order to ensure accurate translation,various translation strategies have been applied to this practice,including the lexical conversion,the voice conversion,separation,substitution,addition,punctuation treatment,and the conversion between the impersonal and personal structures.The fourth part is conclusion.Through this practice,the author clearly realizes that many problems have adverse impacts on translation quality,such as the lack of background information in VET,the ignorance of differences in voice between Chinese and English,and unawareness of the flexibleusage of relevant network tools.In the future,the translator should make efforts to improve bilingual ability to better translate materials.
