This paper takes all the 66 characters governed by the radical character “you” in the big Xu Shuo Wen Jie Zi as the research object.Relying on the related interpretation of Xu Shen,it gives a thorough analysis to the involved philology issues of Shuo Wen Jie Zi,such as the classifying of the characters,Yisheng,Shengsheng,Chongwen,Zhuque,etc.Meanwhile,it analyzes the function of all the characters mentioned above comprehensively based on their usage in the ancient books,and researches the involved philology issues,including Gujinzi,Tongjiazi,Variant and Simplified Characters.From these analysis and research,it tries to specify the improvement of the characters,and have a deeper look at the related stylistic rules of Shuo Wen Jie Zi and the general pattern of the development of Chinese characters.The Introduction Part of the paper provides the background and the main content of the paper and the ordering of the characters governed by “you” in Shuo Wen Jie Zi.Dividing into four chapters,Chapter One and Two of the paper analyze the structural features of the non-phonological and phonological characters that are governed by the radical “you” respectively,which involve the radicals' establishing or the classifying of single characters,and the components' semantic functions and the basis of classifying of the meaning-joint characters and Yisheng characters;Chapter Three explores the styles including Yisheng,Chongwen,Zhuque with respect to Xu Shen's explanation on the characters in Shuo Wen Jie Zi;Chapter Four gives a comprehensive analysis about the function of the characters mentioned above based on their usage in ancient documents,and investigates and contrasts the related philology concepts including Gujinzi,Tongjiazi,Variant and Simplified Characters.The characters which use “you” as their semantic symbols but haven't been governed by it will be put in the related chapters to analyze and research.
