A Report On The Translation Of Contemporary Perspectives On Rhetoric(Chapter Two)

The translation report,based on the translation practice of Chapter Two of the book: Contemporary Perspectives on Rhetoric,is a summary and review of the translation process.The book introduces the development of contemporary western rhetoric theories,of which Chapter Two is about I.A.Richards.This report mainly consists of four parts,including introduction of translation materials,description of translation process,case analysis,and summary of the translation practice.Case analysis is the core of the report,which studies and analyzes the problems encountered in translation process,including lexical and syntactical difficulties.The former involves the translation of derived words,adjectives,nouns,verbs and polysemous words,and relevant translation methods adopted are loan translation,contextual analysis,the extension of semantic meaning and lexical conversion.The latter includes the translation of attributive clauses and passive sentences,the translation of sentences that have long and complex subject and object parts,and sentences with inanimate subjects,the translation of quotations,and translation skills such as separation,conversion and addition have been used to achieve accurate translation.And through the longitudinal comparison between the original and final versions,the translation skills and solutions are presented.The summary of the translation practice stresses the writer's reflection on and understanding of the translation,which demonstrates the significance of accurate expression and flexibility in translation,as well as the influence of the lack of relevant professional knowledge on translation quality.The recognition of insufficiency enables one to make improvements,all of which will provide theoretical guidance and experience for the following translation practice.
