With the increasing international exchanges and fast development of Internet and communication technology,many more types of modern equipment have been applied in interpreting industry and the new type of Telephone Interpreting(TI)emerges at the right time.The TI has a wide range of applications involving finance,tourism,healthcare and large-scale sporting events,etc.,and gradually arouses more attentions from governments,companies and individuals.Taking advantage of the advanced communication equipment,it allows people to enjoy the convenient,efficient and beneficial interpreting service at any time and place.Moreover,although the development of TI in China is still in the primate stage,its emergence coincides with the trend of our times,so it contains infinite potentials and is bound to enjoy a promising market in China.This report is mainly composed of four chapters based on analyzing the author’s telephone interpreting practice for a bank card customer service.The first chapter is a brief introduction to the work contents as well as working requirements for telephone interpreters.The second chapter is divided into two parts: in the part of pre-interpreting preparation,details of preparation are introduced,including introducing the definition,features and work ethnics of TI and the preparation of professional terminologies and expressions;in the part of interpreting process,detailed interpreting process and matters deserved attentions are given.Chapter three,the key chapter of this report,mainly focuses on illustrating some problems occurred in the interpretation from two aspects,which are interpreter’s subjectivity consciousness and difficulties in understanding the source language,meanwhile attached with corresponding coping strategies.The last chapter primarily concerns with summing up the author’s practical experience and the enlightenment for the improvement of TI service in the future.Through the task description and case analysis,the author finds that: a full pre-interpreting preparation is a prerequisite and guarantee for the successful completion of TI task,including the preparation of background knowledge and professional expressions and terminology;while in the process of interpreting,given the complexity and diversity of telephone inquiries,interpreters should pay attention to accumulating relevant knowledge to expand the scope of expertise and familiarizing with the various accents so as to improve the ability of understanding the source language and expressing the target language;in addition,in TI,with absence of nonverbal language,interpreters need to give full play to their subjectivity consciousness by timely delivering turn-takings,adding and altering communication information in an effort to improve a mutual understanding and ultimately help customers solve their problems.This report is expected to provide practical materials and direction for the further study and research of TI,so as to contribute to the rising and booming of TI in China. |
