A Report On The Interpretation Of The Serial Telephone Meetings Between China-ASEAN Information Harbour And Cambodia Royal Group

Since the "Belt and Road Initiative" was put forward by President Xi Jinping,the exchanges between China and ASEAN countries in economic,political and cultural fields have become increasingly frequent.As the permanent host city to China-ASEAN Expo,Nanning now has become a gateway for China-ASEAN exchanges and cooperation.From July to September of 2018,the author was an intern at China-ASEAN Information Harbour Co.,Ltd.and served as an English interpreter in the POC cooperation project between CAIH and Cambodia Royal Group.This paper mainly reviews the author's three telephone interpretation practices in this project.This paper consists of five parts.The first chapter introduces the project background,form and content of this interpreting task.The second chapter is the literature review,which mainly introduces schema theory that guides the author's interpretation preparation and practice,researches about translator's subjectivity at home and abroad and the related researches on telephone interpreting,moreover,the author conducts an analysis on the relationship between the three.The third chapter mainly introduces how the author carried out targeted pre-interpretation preparation and pre-interpretation analysis under the guidance of schema theory,including collecting related industrial terms,predicting the content of the telephone meetings based on the prior face-to-face meeting,etc.The fourth chapter is the case analysis,including reflection on the difficulties and problems emerged in the task,and the interpretation strategies and techniques used in the process.The fifth chapter summarizes the author's multi-faceted gains in the interpretation practice,and the author summarizes how could a telephone interpreter better exert subjectivity under the guidance of schema theory to promote the smooth progress of the meeting,and at last the author looks forward to the future and puts forward the direction of becoming an excellent interpreter.The innovation in this report is that it creatively proposes the significance of schema theory in guiding telephone interpreters to do pre-interpretation preparation and pre-interpretation analysis,and its role of guiding telephone interpreters in exerting subjectivity in telephone meetings.The cases in this report are all from the real scenes of telephone meetings.The author hopes that this dissertation can provide some reference and suggestions for interpreters and interpretation learners.
