Nowadays, international exchanges are increasingly frequent and popular.Broadband internet is gradually available to all,and audiovisual technology is springing up.All of these have not only laid a good technical foundation for the development of remote interpreting, but also generated a huge market demand. In recent years,Telephone Interpreting,as one of the new types of remote interpreting, has found its ways into people's daily life in virtue of its high-efficiency,around-the-clock service and cost-saving.It is widely used in various fields, such as economy, culture, finance and tourism, and promises a pleasant future.Based on the China UnionPay project, this report mainly describes the author's practice and demonstrates a detailed analysis of the problems and coping strategies during telephone interpreting.First and foremost, the report gives a brief introduction to the CUP project, work contents and requirements of the interpreter.Next, the interpreter describes the process of the task, which involves the pre-service training,pre-interpreting preparation, interpreting process as well as evaluation after interpretation. What's more, the author analyzes typical cases in a detailed way, which is the core of this report. The author makes comprehensive analysis from three perspectives: difficulties encountered in telephone interpreting, interpreter's subjective consciousness and interpreter's non-neutral stance.Eventually, the report shows the conclusion of the report, which concerns with summary and experiences of author's interpreting practice and its enlightenment for future study.Through the interpreting practice and case analysis, the author comes to the following conclusions: 1.Interpreters should realize the importance of pre-interpreting preparation. They should focus on collecting and acquainting themselves with latest information about the industry they are going to work for.By doing so,they can be more qualified for the job.2.Unlike other forms of interpretation, the parties allinvolved in the telephone interpreting may be in different places. This invisibility can create a sense of distrust in the caller.Coupled with customers from all over the world with different local accents, interpreting tasks turn to more difficult. Thus, interpreters should win the trust of customers with sincere service, solid interpreting skills and professional subject knowledge.3.Interpreters' subjective consciousness relates to the successful conversation closely in the telephone interpreting. In many cases, interpreter can avoid embarrassment by gatekeeping the information, adjust communicative chaos by controlling turn-taking and ease the tension by providing polite attitude as co-interlocutor.But being over subjective should be avoided. That means the interpreter shouldn't take precedence over the major parties, which connects directly with the quality of communication.4.The interpreter's assumed neutral stance is always inevitably influenced by the changes and adjustments of their different roles in the communication, but this non-neutral stance should be slight and contextualized. The quality of communication can be assured by the active involvement of the interpreter.
