The Comparison Of Humorous Writing Style Between Qian Zhongshu And Yang Jiang

Humor is a point of view of the world,a way of writing,and an aesthetic style shared by reality and art.Both of Qian Zhongshu and Yang Jiang's literary works reflect a strong sense of humor by setting the plot,shaping the characters,and using the rhetorical devices,which have created a unique personal style of humor.This paper takes Qian's and Yang's literary works as the research object based on the analytic angle of the art of humor,trying to figure out their humorous style in writing and the profound meaning hidden in the humor through comparing their typical works.Both Qian and Yang are good at depicting the modern Chinese intellectuals and citizens.Through the shaping of the characters and the plot,they show the hypocrisy,low self-esteem,and the conceit of intellectuals in the last century.Qian tends to depict characters with intense emotions and judge the character directly,forming a kind of subjective humor.While Yang describes the characters in an objective attitude,drawing the outlines of the characters by means of cartoon,such as giving them funny nicknames.That is to say,she demonstrates the humor in an objective way.In the aspect of plot design,Qian is more likely to intensify the conflict,leading the story to an irreversible climax,so that the readers can get across the sense of humor by reading the embarrassment of characters.On the contrast,Yang likes to resolve contradictions and weaken the climax in turn by creating good results of characters so that the readers get her humor in a tacit way.As for the application of rhetorical devices,Qian is good at expressing the attitude of people,things and things by means of metaphor,which can raise the reader's interest and achieve a sense of humor by showing the absurdity of metaphorical objects.Yet Yang uses the most simple way,focusing on the interesting and vivid metaphorical objects to reflect the world objectively and obligingly.Meantime,the irony in Qian's works turns outto be more ironic but that in Yang's is inclined to be interesting.Qian's humor is sharp,straight-forward,and novelty,while Yang's is gentle,implict and natural.Owing to the factors including their family background,knowledge structure,gender features and the view of life,their humorous style in writing differ from each other greatly.
