An Analysis Of The Lexical Variation In Super Interview From 2006 To 2015

Language and society are closely related to each other.With the development of society,language develops and changes.As the basic characteristic of language,language variation occupies an important position in the field of sociolinguistics.The most active factor in language system is word,which has obvious variation.The previous research data are mainly from films,teleplays,novels and so on.Few scholars adopt TV talk shows as the source of data.The language in talk shows is natural and closely related to real life,which can help people better experience the lexical variation phenomena in life.This study employs the language of Super Interview as its research object.It adopts Language Variation Theory as the theoretical framework.In the thesis,the author explores lexical variation from the perspectives of content words and function words.In terms of content words,only nouns,adjectives and verbs are analyzed.These three classes of words are conducted from five aspects.They are new coinages,loanwords,dialect words,cyber words and old words with new meanings.As for function words,several adverbs and conjunctions are analyzed based on their grammatical functions and usages.With regard to content words,firstly,the results show that lexical variation is reflected more obviously by nouns than by verbs and adjectives in terms of quantitative method.Secondly,some morphemes have powerful word construction ability.Thirdly,a series of words constructed by the same morpheme have the same word class and grammatical meaning.Last but not least,more and more words are used to reflect the current social situations,several words can reflect the mental needs of people.As for the variation of function words,the frequency of most adverbs and conjunctions increases.Due to the feature of closed words,the total number of function words is comparatively stable.However,when it comes to the usages and functions of these words,the variation is obvious.As for adverbs,firstly,two adverbswith similar meaning have different functions.Secondly,different adverbs with the same function have variation on their using frequency.As for conjunctions,firstly,most people are more likely to use conjunctions in their daily communication.Secondly,the functions and usages of conjunctions become complex but systematic.This thesis not only contributes to the completeness of sentence structure,but also reflects social and cultural development.What's more,it also helps people better express their feelings and maintains a good relationship among people.Therefore,this study on Chinese lexical variation is of theoretical and practical importance.
