The research of the translator's subjectivity has become the focus in translation studies.Nowadays, the studies of translator's subjectivity in Chinese and Western field of translation have achieved considerable results. However, translators are different, and influenced by different environments. So the translator's subjectivity presents different features. Therefore,it is necessary to do more studies on the translator's subjectivity to enrich the understanding of translator's subjectivity. This thesis will study the translator's subjectivity of Zhou Shoujuan.Zhou Shoujuan(1895—1968)was an outstanding translator in the late Qing dynasty and the early Republic of China. However,so far, scholars have not conducted a systematic study of the manifestations and influencing factors of Zhou Shoujuan's translator's subjectivity. In view of this research gap, this thesis will study the following two research questions:1.What are the manifestations of Zhou Shoujuan's translator's subjectivity?2.What are the influencing factors of Zhou Shoujuan' s translator's subjectivity?Anthology of Famous European and American Short Stories is used as the study case and George Steiner's translation motion theory is used as the theoretical perspective in this thesis.According to the systematic study of the manifestations and influencing factors of Zhou Shoujuan's translator's subjectivity, this study found that:In the "trust" stage,Zhou Shoujuan's translator's subjectivity is manifested in selecting to translate short stories, which is influenced by personality, market demand, personal economic level, and literature conception. As for the themes of the original work,Zhou Shoujuan prefers to select romantic, patriotic, and ethical fictions, which is mainly influenced by his fruitless first love, writing style, the influence of his parents, and political situation. In the "aggression" stage,Zhou Shoujuan's translator's subjectivity is manifested in invading original text from cultural consciousness and writing style, which is deeply influenced by Chinese culture. In the "incorporation" stage,Zhou Shoujuan's translator's subjectivity is manifested in the translation strategy and language transformation, which is influenced by readers, patrons, and social background. In the "compensation" stage,Zhou Shoujuan's translator's subjectivity is manifested in applying "thick translation",which is mainly influenced by readers.Based on the findings above,it can be concluded that Zhou Shoujuan's translator's subjectivity is mainly manifested in paying attention to the expectation of Chinese readers and translations' acceptability. And his translator's subjectivity is mainly influenced by economic situation, growth experience and social background.Studying Zhou Shoujuan's translator's subjectivity serves as a supplement to the previous studies about Zhou Shoujuan's translation activities.Studying Zhou Shoujuan's translator's subjectivity will help us to understand the value of Zhou Shoujuan as a translator more comprehensively.
