This article attempts to discuss the discrimination harms latent in the employment, some of which are not admitted officially. So Jessica tends to urge the government to redefine the notion of discrimination harms in order to provide the people with better employment protection. This translation project will cover the whole article. The translator is quite concerned about some social issues relating to law,so she decided to choose this article,Rethinking Employment Discrimination harms.Translating legal materials would be a challenge for the translator, but it would also be of great help for the translator's translating practice in the future.By the aid of the text analysis, the source text can be categorized as informative text, based on the theory of Peter Newmark.Legal translation is complicated and very difficult.Additionally, the legal language is authoritative, which requires the translator to be very serious in choosing the proper meaning of certain legal words. It means that the language used in translating legal documents should be precise and correct, which brings out more difficulties for the translator who is not familiar with the legal language.Confronted with those difficulties, the translator employed some resources to help her, such as some specialized dictionaries and internet websites, whose contents are about law and translation methods and skills. This report includes four chapters. The first gives the inteoduction of the project, including background, significance, objective and organization of the project. The second chapter tells pre-translation preparation.Which includes analysis of the linguistic features of the original text and the key and difficult points in translation. The third chapter deals with the illustration of the translation process by providing some cases with detailed analysis. The translator analyzes the cases from lexical and syntactic level, using some translation methods and skills, such as amplification and omission. The fourth chapter is about the conclusion of this project, which includes major findings, implications, and suggestions.
