Charles Tomlinson Griffes is one of the most prominent representatives of American Impressionist musician.Roman Sketches Op.7 is the most illustrious composition that represents the stylistic characteristics of his impressionism style.In this dissertation,the historical influence of the development of impressionism in America will be discussed.Using Roman Sketches Op.7as a survey example,this survey its studies aspects of tempo,rhythmic style,articulation,dynamics,Harmonic color,pedaling,along with analysis of recordings by Garrick Ohlsson and Alan Feinberg,thus to achieve a better understanding and interpretation of Charles Griffes' s piano works.
