A Historical Data Study On Dunhuang Recreation In The Tibetan Reign

Recreation refers to a variety of games or entertainment activities,and recreational activities refer to the spiritual and cultural activities people engaged in daily life for the purpose of achieving entertainment.Dunhuang recreation,together with the academic research of Dunhuang studies and Dunhuang sports,both are the hierarchical and complex cultural phenomena and disciplines which are rich in connotations and vague in extensions.It is also closely related to the research of philosophy,politics,religion,medicine,art and other disciplines.Dunhuang recreation is an indivisible part of Dunhuang sports,and therefore,the academic research of it is not only deeply rooted in Dunhuang Studies,but also has its own unique development track.AD 786-88 is the period of Tibetan reigning Dunhuang.At that time,the Dunhuang recreational culture and its development was not so clumsy or followed an old routine.On the contrary,the in-depth exchanges of Chinese and foreign culture and Tibetan culture promoted Dunhuang recreational culture enter a new stage of development.During the reign of the Tibetan era,the recreational activities in Dunhuang had a long history and a great variety,which added rich leisure and entertainment activity forms for the social life of the people at that period,so that people could enjoy leisure and entertainment,and also be able to cultivate sentiments and do physical exercise.This paper divides the recreational activities during Tibetan reign into skill recreation,gambling recreation,game recreation and festival recreation which have different origins and characteristics respectively.This is of great significance to the daily life of the people in Dunhuang area.Dunhuang recreational activities contain unique political,entertaining and religious characteristics,mainly because Dunhuang is located in the Silk Road and it is the important hub and transit point of the cultural exchanges between China and the West.Therefore,Dunhuang recreational activities were influenced by the cultures of both Western Regions and the Central Plains,and ultimately formed a distinctive Dunhuang recreational culture.This paper aims to take Dunhuang recreation in the Tibetan reign as the study object which is rich in content and theme.It studies the origins and connotations of Dunhuang recreational culture and its evolutionary trajectories in Dunhuang frescoes and documents,digs out and fills up the new materials of Dunhuang recreation in an exploratory way,and ponders the problems in the study of Dunhuang recreation based on the frontier research direction and the recent academic developments in order to seek and prejudge the research contents and the academic direction of Dunhuang recreation in future development.Meanwhile,combining with the relevant document literature of the Dunhuang period,this paper uses the scientific research method to sort out the whole process of the evolution of Dunhuang recreation during the Tibetan reign and restores the true colors of Dunhuang recreational activities,thus demonstrating the social function and cultural value of Chines ancient recreation through the evolution process of Dunhuang recreation.In addition,the paper is based on the basic theoretical research,and the author hopes that through the study of Dunhuang recreation during the Tibetan reign,it can provide some new research ideas and innovative reference for Dunhuang recreational academic research so as to make due contributions for relevant studies.
