This paper studied the anti-war documentary,”Behind the frontline” which was made by the Chongqing Radio and Television Group and the Propaganda department of Chongqing Municipal Party Committee jointly.It has 12 sets,introduced what the people behind the frontline did for the anti-Japanese war,included the military,diplomacy,education and other aspects.This film,concerned famous military scientists and ordinary Chongqing citizens,also a large scene narrative and individual narrative.This paper attempted to use narrative theories to explore the narrative elements of the documentary film,the author tried to analysis it from six aspects,visual narration,the narrative perspective and the main line,the narrative structure and the rhythm,the narrative language,the narrative space dimension and the narrative value and so on.The main body of the paper consists mainly of six parts:The first part of the paper will study the visual narration of the " Behind The Frontline " would narrate mainly from three parts: how the film recreated the history;second,how the film reshaped the spirit of the war;last how the film focused on key people and key events.The second part of the paper will study the narrative perspective and narrative main line of the film.The main line of narrative plays an important role in the documentary,there are two ways of series and parallel.According to Genette,who is the representatives of narratology,this part divided the narrative perspective into three kinds :omniscient narrative perspective,the narrative perspective of the "witness" and the pure view of the narrator.The combination with a variety of perspectives can make important charactersmore well-stacked the story more vivid and true,what is more,provided the audience real psychological experience.The third part of the paper will study the narrative structure and narrative rhythm of the film.Narrative structure is a framework of the story,which determines the breadth and depth of the narrative content of the story,the fragmented historical materials were integrated organically,which conforms to the aesthetic requirements of the audience.The article mainly analyzes the characteristics of narrative structure from two aspects: the war witness and the important event.Narrative rhythm refers to the pace of the story,rapid or soothing,relaxation combined with anxiety formed a concerted effort.It can grasp the attention of the audience,also cause the emotional resonance.The fourth part of the paper will study narrative image language of the film,Starting with From three angles: firstly,varieties of voice enriched the emotional expression of the documentary,and enhanced the narrative vivid.Secondly,montage language narrative and personalized language increased the authenticity of the narrative and the sense of the scene.Lastly,rich transformation of lens,using of close-range and close-up view created the atmosphere.The fifth part of the paper will mainly study the multi-faceted narrative spatial dimension of the film.It was divided into three kinds: the historical spatial dimension constructed by historical image,the realistic spatial dimension constructed by the "witness" and the emotional dimension of constructed by producers.and constructed the history from different dimensions,made the history more plausible.The sixth part of the paper will study narrative theme and the narrative value of the film.This part first discusses narrative theme: who is behind the eyes of war ordinary individuals,pay more attention to their living conditions,from the perspective of ordinary people to reflect on the war,make people more rational view of this period of history.Using various narrative techniques and methods to interpret these themes is a summary of patriotism and national mission derived from the narrative documentaryframework of the Anti Japanese War theme historical documentary.This part is framework of the historical documentary of the war.Rediscovering and exploring the historical process,attracting the attention of the new generation of young people,saving the endangered disappearance of national memory,impacting foreign policy and international relations,reviewing on the war to promote rational justice,would be the value of the film.
