The importance of English reading is quite clear-cut.It is the main access to have to information.With the development of society and economy,improving the ability of English reading is a prerequisite and guarantee for college students to learn English well.On this basis,they can better participate in the construction of The Belt and Road Initiative.However,the teaching experience of the past has made the author realize that there are many difficulties and challenges to improve the English reading ability of college students.The reason is that the traditional teaching model affects the further improvement of college students' English reading ability,because of its teacher-centered environment and focus on grammar and vocabulary as the major knowledge,which has ignored the development of students' comprehensive ability of language use.The flipped classroom teaching model is a new one which has formed up and gradually developed in recent years.It basically reflects the latest cognition of front-line educators on the field of education and teaching,and has also been widely used by educators in the teaching of various subjects both at home and abroad.The flipped classroom teaching model is a complete subversion of the traditional teaching.At present,there are a large number of relevant theories and researches on the application of the flipped classroom in English Teaching both abroad and domestically.The research of the flipped classroom in college English reading teaching is less involved.The purpose of this thesis is to compare the teaching effects of the flipped classroom teaching model with the traditional teaching model through the combination of the related theories and practice.Eight week of empirical research is implemented to observe the teaching effect to verify the effectiveness of the flipped classroom teaching model in college English reading teaching.The empirical study was conducted among 60 students of non-English majors in Northwest Minzu University.In the process of the experiment,pre-test,post-test and the questionnaire are applied.The flipped classroom teaching model is adopted in the EC and the traditional teaching model in the CC.The experimental data are analyzed by the statistical software of SPSS(Statistical Package for the Social Science),The experimental results show that compared with the students in the CC,the students in the EC have improved their reading comprehension ability after the application of the flipped classroom teaching model.The questionnaire results also reveal that the students in the EC become more interested in learning English,which is more beneficial to the cultivation of students'autonomous learning ability.All of these speak volumes for the effectiveness of this teaching model in college English reading class.This thesis consists of five parts.The first part is the Introduction to the background of the research,the current situation at home and abroad,and the significance of the flipped classroom.The second part is Literature Review that talks about the related theories of the flipped classroom,including the humanism theory,the constructivism learning theory and the learning motivation theory.At the same time,this part introduces several typical teaching model based on these theories.The third part includes the Research Design in accordance with the practical application of the flip classroom of others,the author designs the process of college English reading teaching based on the flipped classroom.Specifically,the author carries out two questionnaires and two reading tests at the beginning and end of the experiment.Meanwhile,the flipped classroom teaching model is adopted in the EC and the traditional teaching model is adopted in the CC.The fourth part is the Data Analysis.Firstly,the author analyzes the results of the two questionnaires and makes comparisons between them.Then,according to the test scores of these two groups before and after the experiment,the author uses SPSS to analyze the data.The results confirm the feasibility of the flipped classroom teaching model in college English reading teaching course.The final part is the Conclusion,which summarizes the main findings of this study,the implications and limitations of this study,and puts forward some suggestions for future research.
