The training to improve high school students' English reading efficiency has traditionally been the focus of English teaching in senior high schools. However, nowaday English reading teaching encounters obstacles and cannot meet the requirements of students put forward by the English Curriculum Standards for Senior High Schools(2017).Those obstacles include students' low reading speed, lack of vocabulary and reasoning ability, failure of deep text understanding, text structure analyzing and questioning;additionally, students often cannot grasp the main idea of the full text.In order to break through the obstacles of English reading teaching in the regular classroom, the research aims to apply the flipped model of English reading teaching in a senior high school,so as to improve the students' reading speed, expand their vocabulary and reading capacity, increase the time of students' cooperation, stimulate their reading interests and ultimately improve students' reading efficiency. The flipped model is built on constructivism learning theory, cooperative learning theory,Bloom's mastery learning theory, and Ausubel's cognitive assimilation learning theory. After half a semester's experimental research, the author finds that students' reading capacity and vocabulary are improved with increasingly promoted reading efficiency.Simultaneously, more cooperation opportunities and sufficient discussion time between students are also built under this teaching model. The research also puts forward three constructive suggestions:(1)Teachers should change their teaching philosophy and try new teaching models;(2)teachers are recommended to judge students' reading efficiency by reading speed and understanding rate rather than test results;(3)in teaching process, teachers are supposed to take advantage of the flipped model to teach students according to their ability.
