The apprenticeship which originated in ancient Greece and flourished in Medieval left an indelible mark on the long river of human social history,it also gave an indispensable impart on the development of the European economy.In the Meddle age,big to the complex grand buildings,small to the meticulous distinctive street ornamentation,nearly all of the artwork which came from people's hands were made by the craftsmen before the industrial revolution.On the one hand,the craftsmen relied on the apprenticeship to reserve their crafts away from lost,on the other hand,apprenticeship can also brought cheap labor.Got into the city and became a good craftsman in industry and commerce was that some people dream of in a certain period of time.In this paper,I explore the traditional guild apprenticeship,from its birth to its transformation and decline.I put this institution as the core,and also explore the relation between this institution and the age,outlines the trajectory of the reform of the British traditional apprenticeship.The first chapter mainly discusses the rise of the traditional guild apprenticeship and its main characteristics,analyzes the soil which rose guild apprenticeship,that soil is the development of city handicraft and the establish of guild system,I think that many factors such as renaissance and autonomous of the city in western Europe,the rose of crafts guilds,and widely used traditional contract constructed the British guild apprenticeship.The second chapter discusses the transformation of the traditional apprenticeship at the end of the Middle Age,it is pointed out that the traditional apprenticeship on the one hand has been to maintain and develop a more complete direction,on the other hand,the transformation of modern British society and the issue of the Great statute of Apprentices made apprenticeship a major difference.The third chapter mainly discusses the development of the industrial revolution to the traditional guild apprenticeship devastating blow,the industrial revolution was prompted by the capitalist handicraft industry to machine production,the traditional apprenticeship which based on the handicraft must faced on the situation of decline and transition.The process of the development and decline of the traditional apprenticeship system in England shows the rise and fall of a system of technology inheritance institution,which was restricted by the transformation of society and was replaced by a more efficient institution.But the apprentice spirit temperament is very meaningful and difficult to give up,the modern apprenticeship inherits the beneficial parts of traditional apprenticeship.
