In Understanding Media,Marshall Mc Luhan indent ified the medium and the message,or rather,he defined medium itself as message.Media, being the carriers of informat ion,are everywhere, which have some certain relations with human's body.Wheel is regarded as the extension of feet and clothing is treated as the extension of skin.Critical Terms for Media Studies is a volume of media studies, which explains the media concept with vivid examples. This translat ion report is based on the translat ion of Critical Terms for Media Studies(excerpts).Under the guidance of explicitation method, translat ion methods that are employed can be categorized into lexical explicitat ion, including annotation, embodiment of pronouns, repetit ion and conversion, and syntactic explicitation, including sentence reorganization, syntactic expansio n and conjunction addition,to provide readers with an acceptable translated version. It is expected that the translation could be helpful for the domest ic media studies and could help expand the research field of media translat ion, leaving people with a deeper and better understanding of the environment and culture t ype that they live in.As the first Chinese versio n of the original text, the reporter hopes it will provide reades with ideas about media studies for reference.Meanwhile, through this report,an increasing number of people will know better that explicitat ion method is not limited by free translat ion or lit eral translat ion method.By parsing and expressing implicit informat ion of the original text, explicitation can enhance the logic and readabilit y of the translation, ensuring the readers re ceive accurate informat ion.
