A Report On The Consecutive Interpreting At The Promotion Seminar Of SEKO's Biogas Production Technology

Field interpreting practice is to interpreting majors what military drills to defense army.Field practice serves as not only a vital yardstick of students' interpretation competence but also a golden chance for students to analyze,comment on and reflect on their performance.Field interpreting practice involves almost all the factors which are required to be taken care of in interpretation class.Filed interpreting practice is the combination of complexity,flexibility,and instantaneity.Therefore,this report aims to study one of the author's conference interpreting practices,discover commonplace problems in conference interpreting and contribute some thoughts.This report takes the Promotion Seminar of SEKO's Biogas Production Technology,as the raw materialin implementingthe study.This report describes the whole process of consecutive interpretation at the seminar including the pre-interpreting preparation,the “warm-up” activities and performance during the interpretation,and post-interpretation reflection.Some representative cases are selected throughout the paper to elaborate problems(listening comprehension,long-term and short-term memory and psychological problems),trace the causes and come up with coping strategies.In the post-interpreting period,the author reflects on and assesses on-the-spot performance,as well as analyzes the process of interpreting in the view of Relevance Theory and summarizes its guidance on interpreting.According to Relevance Theory,the interpreter should enrich his cognitive environment and make optimal relevance before and during the interpretation.This report also touches upon how an interpreter should reproduce the information which source language carries.At the end of this paper,the report is summarized while limitations are clearly pointed out and suggestions are sincerely raised.This paper serves as a tiny contribution to the study on interpreting practices.
