A Report On The Chinese Translation Of Healing Your Eyes With Chinese Medicine(Preface&Introduction Plus Chapter One To Chapter Three)

This report is based on the translation of the preface&introduction plus chapter one to chapter three of Healing Your Eyes with Chinese Medicine by Andy Rosenfarb who is a practitioner of traditional Chinese medicine.The project is launched by the Jiangxi Thinker Investment Ltd,which plans to build up a Traditional Chinese Ophthalmic Hospital in Jiangxi province.This book is part of the research materials collected during the previous study.According to the textual features of the text,equivalent effect theory is chosen to be the guiding theory.This report briefly introduces the theory and discusses the translation of lexical expressions,syntactic structures and text under the guidance of the theory.when translating lexical expressions,the author of this report applies a variety of translation methods,such as explanation,literal translation and division translation.In translating syntactic structures,the writer transfers passive voice into Chinese active voice and inanimate subjects into animate subjects according to the context and situation.For complex sentences,the writer of this report analyzes their logical structures,splits them into several parts,makes them simplified and clarifies their meanings.Linear translation and inverse translation methods and division method are generally used in dealing with complex long sentences.At the textual level,coherence of the target language is the focus of the author of this report.According to the characteristics of the Chinese language,the techniques of repetition and conjunctions are used in the target language so that the translation will be more concise,clear and easy to understand.In addition,the writer focuses on the application of wording with TCM characteristics.Owing to the practice,the author has more experiences in grasping the methodology of translation.This practice not only improves the writer's ability for translation,but also provides the writer with an opportunity to learn and understand TCM.However,there are still some inadequacies.For some of the original sentences,though the writer discussed with TCM practitioners,authority is still lacked.In the future,the writer of this report will continue to learn more expertise of TCM and translation and try to be a qualified translator.
