Report On Translation Of English-only Europe?-Challenging Language Policy(Chapter Five)

This task is the translation of the book English-only Europe?--- Challenging Language Policy, which is published by The British Routledge Press, authored by Professor Robert Phillipson at Department of English, Copenhagen Business School. I translated some parts of Chapter 5, which mainly discusses how to establish a linguistic policy based on equality, and therewith the author comes up with his own suggestions.The report of practice outlines the main content of translation based on translation practice. Aiming at linguistic features in source text, the report provides translation methods correspondingly, sorting out and summarizing the main translation skills applied in target language.The report consists of 5 parts. Chapter 1 describes the translation task by introducing source text, translation purpose, significance and type of text. Chapter 2 introduces preparation prior to translation, time allocation and quality control methods. Chapter 3 introduces functional equivalence theory and its research findings from home and abroad. Chapter 4 summarizes key strategies, methods and skills used by the author from typical words, sentences and paragraphs respectively. Chapter 5 sums up what one has learned from translation practice, and reviews the translation defects in real practice.
