School is the important place for adolescent to learn and living,therefore,successful school adjustment is for the development of teenagers.But if maladjustment,not only to cause individual's interpersonal difficulties,loneliness,depression and a decline in academic performance,but also has an influence on future's work,marriage and family.For high school students,they are in an important period of character development.Studies have shown that in this stage,individual's level of shyness is ascending,the sense of self-awareness is enhanced and the self-concept is gradually formed,this is of great importance on high school student's school adjustment and even the whole life.About the studies of shyness and adjustment,the results are consistent-negative correlation.but the study on Chinese found that the relation between shyness and school adjustment(such as leadership,peer like and academic achievement)is positive.One of the reasons for this result may be associated with culture,under the different culture background,people's understanding on shyness is also inconsistent,and lead to different results on adjustment.Then,for shyness' s cognition and measurement,the past studies are ambiguous,without fully considering the differences of cultures and categories,and using the variable-centered perspective to analyze the results.The relationship between shyness and adjustment is lack of comprehensive,in-depth and meticulous understanding.On the basis of the completed study,the present study is more comprehensive,in-depth and meticulous to explore the relationship between shyness and school adjustment.First,followed the past variable-centered analysis method,using the shyness scale which is developed under the Chinese culture,to explore the relationship between shyness,school adjustment and the core self-evaluation on Chinese students.Then,using cluster analysis which is one of the person-centered methods to divide the high school students in different clusters,to show the different characteristics and the conditions of the school adjustment and core self-evaluation of the different shyness individuals.To specifically the relationship between shyness and school adjustment,and increase the application of the study.A total of 1900 students from three different high schools of participated in this questionnaire investigation.Results shown that:1.On the whole,school adjustment of high school students is in the middle-upper level.School adjustment has significant differences in gender,grade and hometown.Girl's school adjustment is better than the boy's,the school adjustment of Grade 1 high school students is better than the Grade 2 and Grade 3 students,and the urban high school students' adjustment is better than the non-urban students.2.High school students' shyness is negatively correlated with the school adjustment.From the dimensions of shyness,the modest shyness and school adjustment have significant positive correlation,besides,the other dimensions of shyness are negatively correlated with the school adjustment.Shyness is negatively correlated with core self-evaluation.And school adjustment is positively correlated with core self-evaluation.3.Core self-evaluation is a partial mediator between the shyness and school adjustment.4.The high school students were classified into four different categories,anxious-shyness group,friendly-shyness group,high-shyness group and non-shyness group.Different categories of shyness groups are with high heterogeneity.5.Different types of shyness groups have differences in school adjustment and core self-evaluation.The school adjustment and core self-evaluation in different shyness types from high to low are as follows: non-shyness group,friendly-shyness group,anxious-shyness group,high-shyness group.
