Shyness is a general psychological state in interpersonal situations, and individuals of different regions and ages are affected by shyness.the appropriate degree of shyness in a given situation can be regarded as a normal psychological state; However,if the level of shyness is too high or generalized, the individual's life, study, and even physical and mental health will be seriously affected.Over-shy individuals tend to have low levels of happiness, excessive anxiety, fear of rejection, and so on,while some of the more serious ones may suffer from social phobia.College students are at a critical stage of self-consciousness and identity formation,in which they increase their understanding of themselves primarily through interaction with society, however, shyness prevents this kind of interaction to a certain extent, and it has different degrees of negative influence on college students' interpersonal communication and self-development.College students who are shy are more likely to arise school adjustment problem, such as their inability to get along with their teachers and classmates. At present, the research on shyness to college students in China is still in its infancy, there is not only lack of shyness questionnaire for Chinese people, but also few intervention researches on group counseling aimed at shyness of college students.Zimbardo(1972)proposed that shyness may have negative consequences, but it can be relieved.Based on the summary of previous studies both at home and abroad, researchers propose the intervention program that are targeted for group psychological counseling to explore effective ways to interfere with college students' shyness.this study is divided into three parts: the first part is to investigate and analysis the status quo of college students' shyness and school adjustment;the second part is to study the relationship between college students' shyness and school adjustment;the third part is to design targeted group psychological counseling program, and through the intervention to reduce the level of college students' shyness, thereby enhancing their school adaptability.Study 1 and Study 2 selected 570 undergraduates from a normal university as subjects, and effectively tested 513 students to conduct a questionnaire survey. In the third study, the experimental design was compared with experimental group(20 students),comfort group(20students)and control group(20 students).the researcher randomly selected some freshman ofthree parallel classes from a college in a normal university, with the approval of the school leaders and counselors of the college, the researcher decided to select all the students of the three classes as the subjects of this study. In the form of lottery, class A was determined as the experimental group, class B was the comfort group, and class C was the control group. In this study, intervention was applied to the experimental group and the comfort group,8 times each.the group psychological counseling in the experimental group mainly aimed at shyness, comforting group imposing non-targeted growth group psychological counseling not related to shyness, while the control group did not make any intervention. After the intervention, three groups of subjects were tested for shyness and school adjustment, and respectively analyzed the data of three groups before and after the test and the comparative data of the three groups.the results are as follows:Study 1 shows that the shyness of college students is significantly influenced by the urban and rural sources, grade, major and whether it is a student cadre.School adjustment is significantly influenced by urban and rural sources and whether it is a student cadre, professional and grade.Study 2 shows that college students' shyness and their various dimensions are significantly negatively correlated with school adjustment and their dimensions, and the shyness of each dimension has a significant negative predictive effect on school adjustment.Study 3 shows that targeted group psychological counseling can significantly reduce the level of college students' shyness, and correspondingly improve their level of school adjustment.
