Lee Yong is the famous calligrapher and writer during the early and prosperous Tang dynasty,son of the scholar Lee shan.His style of daring to urge the emperor and his glorious inscriptions enjoy a high reputation in the Tang dynasty,deeply admired by younger poets such as Lee Bai,Du Fu,Wang Han.He created a lot of works in his lifetime,specially had a great achievement with the inscription,which constituted an important part of articles in the Tang dynasty.However,due to the severe loss of his works,his literary achievement has been ignored by scholars today and a comprehensive study on him and his works has not yet appeared.On the basis of the existing literature,this article have an attempt to study comprehensivly the relationship between Lee Yong's life,thoughts and his works,collate and note his collection of works named Collected works of Lee Beihai.This thesis comprises two parts.The first part includes three chapters,exposition dominating.The first chapter explored the relationship between his life and literary creation from two periods when he was in Capital and in the local,approached the expression of his thoughts in his works from the great ambitions and the honesty to the emperor,studied deeply the relationship between Lee Yong's life,thought and literary creation.The second chapter made a comprehensive study of Lee Yong's extant works,from poems and rhapsodies,tables,the inscription of four styles,discussed the classification of subject matter and artistic features of his works.The third chapter explored the value of Lee Yong's inscription from the literary value and documentary value,which had the viewpoint that the former is mainly reflected in the revolution on style and the language of rhythmical prose characterized by parallelism and ornateness,and the latter is mainly reflected in the records on the development of Buddhism in the Tang dynasty.The second is the most important part of the thesis,the proofreading of the existing Collected works of Lee Beihai.The notes,take the Wen yuange SIKU six-volume Collcted works of Lee Beihai as the original text,according to Full Collection of Tang Poems and Full Collection of Tang articles and so on,to annotate difficult words,allusions,historical facts and the stuff in the collected works.
