The use of quantifiers is one of the important features of the Sino-Tibetan language system.Quantifier research is an important aspect of Chinese research. The late Qing Dynasty is an important period for the transition from modern Chinese to contemporary Chinese. The quantifiers of this period also show certain characteristics of the times."Nie Haihua" is written in the late Qing Dynasty using spoken language and the use of the quantifiers generally reflects the development of the Chinese quantifier category in this period. This article takes the quantifiers as the research object, and discusses the development and characteristics of the quantifiers in the late Qing Dynasty. The paper is divided into three sections, the first section describes the quantifiers for noun and quantifiers for verb in "Nie Haihua" exhaustively. We divided quantifiers for noun into dedicated quantifiers for noun and borrowed quantifiers for noun and divided quantifiers for verb into dedicated quantifiers for verb, borrowed quantifiers for verb and timing quantifiers for verb respectively, then make further sub-class division according to the characteristics of each quantifier and the measurement object.Through the description of the quantifiers in text,we hold that the quantifiers in "Nie Haihua" have a large number, and they are widely used and mature. The second section of the paper mainly discusses the grammatical characteristics of the quantifiers in "Nie Haihua" from both lexical and syntactic aspects, and then further analyzes the rhetorical color of the quantifiers.Through the analysis,we conclude that the quantifiers in "Nie Haihua" have three overlapping ways, two suffix forms: "zi" and "er",and the quantifiers have the tendency of affixation; The combination of quantifiers and syntactic functions tend to be perfect;the descriptive and color features of the quantifiers are characterized with a variety of rhetorical functions. The third section synthesizes the research results of "A study on The Classifiers in The Four Legends in Ming Dynasty" and "Modern Chinese quantifiers usage dictionary".After the comparison of the quantifiers in "Nie Haihua" with the two,we come to a conclusion that the development of quantifiers is a gradual process, and the quantifiers in "Nie Haihua" inherit the basic appearance of Ming dynasty, but also have the foundation effect on the development of modern quantifiers. It is a transitional stage of modern quantifiers to contemporary quantifiers.
