Conference Interpreting Report For The Welsh Government

Interpretation,especially official conference interpreting,is an important practice language service activity.It requires the interpreters to combine the theoretical instruction with the practice.The theoretical foundation of this paper is cross-cultural communication and interpretation theory.The major research methods are the case analysis and the interpretation experience analysis.This report is based on the conference interpreting practice for the Welsh Government and the State Council Research and Development Center.This job was given by the Penguin Culture ltd.for almost a year.It is a company based in Swansea,UK.The Chinese delegation would stay in the UK for 12 days and one day,namely 25th August 2016 in Welsh area.This paper is based on the author's real-life interpreting practice in UK.This thesis is made up of four chapters:Chapter one is mainly about the background and purpose of this practice.Chapter two is about the literature review of the studies in concerned field,namely,the cross-cultural achievements as well as the main interpreting theories both domestically and abroad.Chapter three is mainly about the problems and shortages in real life practice in conference interpreting for the Welsh Government.Chapter four comes to the conclusion including the shortages in conference interpreting practices;the qualifications for an interpreter and the suggestions of future practices.In this interpretation practice,there are many difficulties such as the strong accents;the change of the schedule and the topics were given a day before the meeting etc.According to the cross-cultural communication theories,those problems can be divided into two parts:the verbal communication problem and non-verbal communication problem.Those problems may also occur in real-life interpretation practices.This paper tries to summarize and analyze the adopted strategies and the shortages in conference interpreting for the Welsh Government in United Kingdom.In this way,it may provide some possible methods as a reference for the future careers especially providing theoretical support and practice instruction in training and learning process.Therefore,all those coping tactics could provide some suggestion about the future learning of an interpreter.
