As the Belt and Road enters its 6th year,an increasing number of countries have responded actively to the initiative.The 2018 Seminar on Cultural Trade for Developing Countries was an occasion for culture and trade officials of the countries along the Belt and Road Initiative to come to China and learn the Chinese experiences in promoting cultural trade.As the consecutive and liaison interpreter for the seminar,the author was with the group of 36 international officials throughout their stay in Beijing,Guangzhou and Shenzhen in China.Based on the author's first-hand experiences,this report elaborated on the seminar background,hospitality and interpretation preparations in detail and analyzed the relevant consecutive and liaison interpreting practices through attending to culturally appropriate translation of Chinese cuisines and guest names and examining cross-cultural usage of such non-verbal cues as paralanguage,body language and object language.The author of this report wishes that the report can be of reference to future liaison interpreters for cross-cultural communication occasions like the seminar itself.He would also like for translators for programs alike can help better bridge China and other countries.
