When it comes to Rousseau, a great thinker, everyone will immediately think of many titles surrounding him - "politician"?"educator"?"philosopher" and "writer". He has made great contributions in many aspects and his many ideas converged into a huge resource library. At any time, we can learn what we need from his thoughts. In the history of western ethical thoughts, although he is not mainstream figure, his concentration on the emotional nature can give us introspections. Emotion, as an innate part of human being, cannot be ignored. He reveals that as a primitive intrinsic motivation, the natural emotion has its superiority in moral education. The first part of this paper systematically introduces the background of Rousseau's moral emotion theory, which involves the historical background of Rousseau and the theoretical source of moral emotion theory. In the second part of the article, the basic content of Rousseau's theory of moral emotion is systematically explained. First of all,the theory of natural human nature is the foundation of his ideological system and people in natural state are free. In Rousseau's view, only the behavior of those with free will in the case of voluntary is the real moral behavior. So his moral education is also aimed at cultivating the people with moral freedom. Secondly, this paper focuses on the relationship between self love and compassion and how to reconcile them. Rousseau emphasizes the good emotion is the basis of his moral education. In Rousseau's view,self-love is love for themselves, compassion is love for others. Under the stimulation of these two basic natural emotions, people can produce moral consciousness and motivation, thus forming good virtue. Finally, Rousseau pointed out that conscience guides people to be good, the cultivation and development of conscience depends on the development of natural emotion and the cultivation of natural emotion is a significant part of Rousseau's educational thought. The third part systematically discusses the evaluation and enlightenment of Rousseau's theory of moral emotion, which involves the characteristics of Rousseau's theory of moral emotion. Both Rousseau and Hume pay attention to the role of sympathy in moral emotion. The difference is that Hume stressed the role of rationalism in moral judgment; Rousseau's conscience and Kant's good will,as an ethical thinking,is committed to looking for moral foundation. The difference is that Rousseau sets the law of morality on the basis of natural emotion, while Kant established the law of morality on the basis of reason itself. In the part of revelation to reality, this paper first analyzes the problems of contemporary moral education. The problem is that contemporary moral education does not pay attention to cultivation of moral feeling. Even though focused on training,it is also deviated from the direction. The last part calls for the cultivation of moral emotion. Cultivate the rational emotion to improve the development of self-personality.
