With combination of questionnaires and in-depth interviews,this research investigated the teaching adaptability of all 33 Chinese volunteer teachers to Japan in recent 3 years.We aimed at researching on the adaptability and obvious or potential difficulties in Chinese teaching of this group,hoping to enrich the whole research of the Chinese volunteer teachers program by our work,thus providing practical help to volunteers who wish to teach Chinese to foreigners.As a start,we took a review of relative studies on Chinese volunteer teachers and their teaching adaptability.After summarizing related research paper,we pointed out one shortage of these studies for the present that they are lacking of specific analysis when one specific country is concerned and the study of the volunteer group as a whole to a specific country or region.With the results of questionnaires based on < International Chinese Teacher Standard>,together with the interview investigations of 5 volunteers,we concluded the situation of teaching adaptability of all volunteers to Japan as below.The whole situation seemed satisfying but not optimistic when it comes to grasping the characters of Japanese students,selection of teaching methods,design of class activities and dealing with problematic behaviors of students.Besides,there were also difficulties with specific teaching links and teaching elements.According from these investigations,we can draw the conclusion of causes to these adaptability difficulties into two main parts.Subjectively,these volunteers faced the problem of lacking efficient Chinese knowledge,enough Japanese skills and ample teaching experience.Objectively,they faced a situation composed of groups of special students,different teaching resources,lacking of communications before work and heavy work tasks.After the analysis of teaching adaptability difficulties and their causes,we proposed several suggestions to improve adaptation ability of volunteers to Japan.To the volunteer administration institution: 1.specify training contents,2.improve preparations of handover;To the volunteer working institution: 1.improve communications before work,2.enrich and update teaching resources,3.increase volunteer numbers;To the volunteers: 1.improve professional ability,2.enhance communications with other volunteers.
