Study On Yang Wanli's Verse Of Poetry Thoery

This paper contribute to the research of Yang Wanli'verse of poetry theory on the basis of a brief analysis with the origin and development of the poem theories and the verse of poetry theory.And the purposes of this paper are in three aspect, the first is to pars:ing the content and form of Yang Wanli's verse of poetry theory, then to expound his opinions of poetry, finally to discuss the method of poetry critisizm.therefore we can find the absorption of Yang Wanli to the predecessors and the creation by himself in the activity of poetry criticism.Moreover,the paper have a estimate to the achievement of Yang Wanli's verse of poetry and the attainment of he as a critic.This paper is consist of four chapter.The first chapter take an overview on the verse of poetry theory. Which contain two part. One is to define the conception of verse of poetry theory. The other is to search for its origin and development to the south Song dynasty that Yang Wanli lived. The conception of verse of poetry theory appeared in ancient time,which was titled the quatrains of poetry theory,but it is totally called the verse of poetry theory. This paper more agree to the broad definition which contains all the verses and poems of poetry theory and comment. Since the Verse of Poetry Theory originated from the Book of Songs,it have a slow development in third century to seventh century and appeared a sudden boom in High Tang Dynasty. Then it present with abundant form and multiple poetic thought in Song dynasty.The second chapter introduces the content and form of Yang Wanli's verse of poetry theory.Fristly talk about Yang Wanli's comments on poems or poetry. Then summary his view of literary creation. Yang Wanli have commented some ancient poets and a large number of contemporary poets.and he have two suggestions on literary creation which is about the material of poems and esthetics of poems.In addition ,his views on the material of poems is the thought that poetry should be come from the nature world,and his esthetics view of poems emphasizes the poetry feature or style of clear and quiet; new and fresh; rare and wonderful; artful and skilful; thin and emaciated in literary creation.Then to analysis the form of Yang Wanli's verse of poetry theory, it contains all poetry genres and can be conclude in three category that are present-response poems,singing-to-reply poems as well as preface and postscript poems.The third chapter explains Yang Wanli's poetic thought. Which consist of four poetic idea about"taste of poetry", "skill on poetry creation","detached wisdom in learn about poems:,"touching and moving way of writing".This four poetic idea is related to the poetry activity in Yang Wanli's life."taste of poetry"theory is a method to appreciate poems. Yang Wanli particularly enjoys the poet style of late Tang Dynasty,and prefer the euphemistic poetry.He judges poems with the "taste,"with the influence of a long tradition of poetry criticism.Yang Wanli developed the way of appreciation with feelings,and created a way to judge poems with sweet-smelling. The theory of "skill of poetry creation","etached wisdom in learn about poems"and"touching and moving way of writing"are talking about how to write poem,while the theory "skill of poetry creation"present Yang Wanli's opinions about verse language skill,but Yang Wanli finally argue with "no-artificial"and goes far than poet school of Jiangxi in poetry creation by a flexible skill.The theory of "etached wisdom in learn about poems"means that poet should have gift and wise on learning and writing.And it is Yang's unique advocation about a quality of poet that is essential to poetry creation. This opinion come from the influence of Buddhism and idealist philosophy. The theory of "touching and moving way of writing"is referred to the Yang Wanli's verse that "writing poem easyly on it occurred".That is Yang's proposal about natural creation. it changed the writing convention of the poetry in his time.The fourth chapter elaborates Yang Wanli's characteristic and method of poetrycritisizm in his verse of poetry theory. The method contains reader's feeling critic;express by image critic; guote verse critic; undstand poet's life and background critic as well as compare and rank with poets critic.The characteristics are the Buddhist sense result from the useage of Zen term and the humor sense from the way he comments a poem with the humorous language.Finally,this paper concludes the achievement and influence of Yang Wanli's poetic thought and verse of poetry theory,while the paper also talk about Yang Wanli's quality of poetry critic. All of these are worked to judge the statue and contribution of Yang Wanli in poetic history.
