As an important aspect of the study of Ancient Chinese Literature, the study ofimagery has attracted more and more attention, and has become a hot researchsubject. As an indispensable tool for travelling and communication, the imagery ofhorses were used widely and frequently in Ancient Chinese Literature, especially inthe Poetry of Tang and Song Dynasties. Therefore, it's of great significance to explorethe abundant cultural meaning that horses symbolize through the analyzing of theimagery of horses in the Poetry of Tang and Song Dynasties.This paper mainly consists of three sections, the first section is the developmentof the chant poems about the horses in Tang and Song Dynasties, the second section isthe imagery of horses which is widely used in the Poetry of Tang and Song Dynasties,the third section is the abundant cultural meaning that horses symbolize in the Poetryof Tang and Song Dynasties. More concretely, the first chapter mainly traces thedevelopment and evolution of the literature of the Horses before Tang dynasty,expecting an primarily understanding of the cultural meaning that horses symbolize.The second chapter mainly talks about concrete literature that chant Horses in thePoetry of Tang and Song Dynasties ,in this way, we can have a clear idea of thedevelopment of the chant poems about the horses. The third chapter and the fourthchapter focuses on some typical horse images, like the white horse, the heavenlyhorse, the Dancing-horse, the weak horse and the rearing of horses, trying to revealthe abundant cultural meaning of horses. The epilogue gives a simple summary of thesignificance and influence of the Horses Poetry of Tang and Song Dynasties.
