A Project Report On C-E Translation Of Feature Description Of The Huawei Cloud Managed Network Solution

Along with increasing frequency of international exchanges of science and technology,more and more domestic enterprises are beginning to enter the international arena.Therefore, the C-E translation of technical texts becomes more and more important.However, the professionalism of technical texts posts high requirements on translation,leading to the uneven quality of technical translation and shortage of analysis of related translation practice. The author draws on successful experience and defects based on the record and analysis of her translation practice in Huawei and expects to offer possible suggestions for translating texts of similar topic.This paper is a project report based on the translation practice of Feature Description of the Huawei Cloud Managed Network Solution, which introduces the following functional components of the Huawei Cloud Managed Network Solution: the Cloud-based WLAN Planner, plug-and-play, Cloud Management Security, mobile O&M app and Cloud-based PMI. During the translation, the author met difficulties on the lexical,syntactical, and discourse level, such as logical relations, technical words and expressions,long and complicated sentences and non-subject sentences, and translation style. After comparing language differences between technical texts in Chinese .and English, the author concludes the following translation strategies under the guidance of translation variation theory and criteria of technical translation: literal or free translation for terminologies,combination or division for long and complicated sentences, ellipsis of subjects or translating into passive voice for non-subject sentences, and selective translation for information listing. Furthermore, the author points out unsolved problems and going-on direction of this research.
