The translation of rivet tools, a practice under the theoretical guidance offunctional equivalence by Eugene Nida, aims to ensure a professionaltranslation, and to meet the needs of target readers at the same time. To attainthe goal, the author attempts to avoid mechanical translation and semanticambiguity by using a smooth and clear languge, thus to keep readers clear abouthow to operate the tools accordingly.The selected two cases are both from the translation project between theauthor and the production department of Shanghai Chengying New MaterialsCo., Ltd. The translation report analyzes difficulties encountered in thetranslation process and measures taken accordingly, thus to provide referencefor future translating of instruction manuals of rivet tools.The translation report consists of four chapters. The first chapter is anintroduction. The second chapter describes the project, including requirementsof the client, information of the text and target audience; the preparation andtranslation process; methods of quality control like self-revision and revisionfrom technical personnels. The third chapter is case study, the body of thetranslation report, including the characteristics of the text, difficulties andhandling method of translation of terminology and sentences, and the format aswell. The fourth chapter is the summary of the former chapters.
