Emotion is an important factor affecting individual behavioral decision-making,and envy is a common emotion in upward social comparison.Emotions will produce corresponding behavioral responses.According to the individual’s sense of control and sense of deservingness, envy is divided into different categories.Divided into different types, namely benign envy and malicious envy, their behavioral responses are also different. While the third party punishment is a social behavior, and the motivation behind it is very rich. Therefore,to explore the relationship between different types of envy the impact of third-party punishment and its mechanism is very necessary. This study is based on the students of a middle school in Shanxi Province.By means of questionnaire method and experimental method,to explore the influence of different types of envy emotions on third-party punishment, and to explore the mechanism of self-control and core self-evaluation in it.In study 1,questionnaires were used to investigate the influence of trait benign envy and trait malicious envy on third party punishment and the mechanism of trait self-control.The influence of tripartite punishment and the mechanism of trait self-control in it.The results of the study show that:(1)the trait benign envy significantly and negatively predicts third-party punishment willingness, and self-control is related to trait benign envy and punishment willingness.(2)the trait malicious envy significantly and positively predicts third-party punishment willingness, and self-control is in the trait malicious envy and willingness to punish play a mediating role.In study 2,in order to explore the effect of benign envy and malicious envy on the third party punishment and the role of state self-control in it,we used the experimental method to induce benign envy and malicious envy. The results of the study show that:(1)benign envy significantly reduces the third-party punishment willingness, state self-control is the mediating variable of envy affecting the third party’s willingness to punish;(2)malicious envy significantly increases the third party’s willingness, state self-control is the mediating variable that malicious envy affects the third party’s willingness to punish. In study 3,core self-evaluation was introduced to further explore the effects of different core self-evaluation levels on benign envy and malicious envy on the third party’s willingness from the state level. The results of the study show that: Core self-evaluation plays a moderating role in the influence of benign envy and malicious envy on third-party punishment willingness. In the condition of benign envy, the core self-evaluation positively moderated the first half of the mediation process of benign envy affecting the third party’s punishment intention through state self-control,and positively moderated the direct effect of benign envy on the third party’s punishment intention. In the condition of malicious envy, the core self-evaluation has a negative moderating effect on the influence of malicious envy on the third party’s intention to punish. In conclusion, this study reveals the different types of envy affect the third-party punishment from two aspects of trait and state, and discusses the psychological mechanism from the perspective of self-control and core self-evaluation.
