A Study On The Particles In Shaoxing Dialect

Shaoxing dialect belongs to the Lin-Shao sub-cluster,Taihu cluster,Wu-Chinese.There has not been any systematic research into the particles in Shaoxing dialect.This thesis,after dividing the particles in Shaoxing dialect into three groups---structural particles,tense-aspect particles and modal particles,studies the three aspects of Shaoxing dialect---syntax,semantics and pragmatics chiefly by synchronic description and secondly diachronic research.Besides,it also does inductive analyses of the characteristic pragmatical tendencies of these particles.This thesis is divided into three chapters.The first chapter introduces the reason for having selected this subject,the basic information about Shaoxing dialect,previous related research,the research object and the research significance,and lastly,the research methods and the source of corpus.The second is the key part.We describe the particles in Shaoxing dialect one by one before doing analyses of the affect they convey---pragmatical tendencies and find something they have in common.The third chapter concludes the whole thesis and comes up with some suggestions for further research.
