Alexander Porphyrievitch Borodin was one of the Russian influential composers of nationalism in the 19th century.He was a scientist,but he made surprising and excellent achievements in the field of composition.The number of his works is limited;however,the artistic value of them is amazing.He was once praised by the Western critics that "There is no one in history who could win so much appreciation and reputation owing to such few number of works except Borodin" It is the polyphonic thinking that provides the important basis of his works that fully reflect his style of nationalism.The author take Borodin's polyphonic thinking as entry point so as to analyze the planning in polyphonic thinking during the composition and explore his practice in the aspects of metrical writing,application of free imitation?patterned polyphony?the character of rhythm and meters?conterpoint of multi-voice from the Polyphonic disciplines,and conclude that comprehensive art is the reflect of polyphonic thinking and that harmony,structure and tone are the special forms of polyphonic techniques.The author intends to study the integration between polyphonic techniques and Russian nationalism music,which exerts great influence on the process of composition,by exploring the combination of the composer's polyphonic thinking and the characters of the tunes of Russian folk music?harmonic progression?heterophony.Therefore,the use of pure classical polyphonic techniques and the application of the nationalism in polyphony are the embodiments of the polyphonic thinking of Borodin's works.It is his nationalism that confers the innovative characteristics and the vitality to the polyphonic techniques.
